On the Buddha's birthday we pour fragrant water over the infant Buddha — an old and tender rite of purifying the heart, celebrated together in the main hall.

The monthly retreat.
Once a month, practitioners climb the mountain to Ru-Yi for a full day of practice together — the steady heartbeat of our community. We come down from the busyness of the world and spend a day doing nothing but turning toward the Dharma.
The day unfolds gently: we recite the name of the Buddha together, sit in periods of quiet meditation, listen to a short teaching, and share a simple vegetarian meal. No experience is needed — only a willingness to be present. In winter, plum blossoms open white across the slopes and mountain mist drifts through the courtyard.
