Eleven Wishes, and a Statement of Purpose
Leaving Universal Practice's mountain, Good-Wealth's own inner resolve is spelled out in unusual detail — six things he no longer cares for, and eleven things he wishes for instead — before he reaches the elder Utpala-Flower and restates his purpose in ten further clauses.
Six Things Set Aside, Eleven Things Wished For
Good-Wealth's own inward state, rarely described this explicitly, is given here in two matched lists — everything ordinary life might offer him that he has stopped caring about, followed by eleven wishes reaching toward buddhahood alone.
爾時，善財童子因善知識教，不顧身命，不著財寶，不樂人眾，不耽五欲，不戀眷屬，不重王位；唯願化度一切眾生，唯願嚴淨諸佛國土，唯願供養一切諸佛，唯願證知諸法實性，唯願修集一切菩薩大功德海，唯願修行一切功德終無退轉，唯願恒於一切劫中以大願力修菩薩行，唯願普入一切諸佛眾會道場，唯願入一三昧門普現一切三昧門自在神力，唯願於佛一毛孔中見一切佛心無厭足，唯願得一切法智慧光明能持一切諸佛法藏，專求此等一切諸佛菩薩功德。
At that time, Good-Wealth, through his good spiritual friends' own teaching, gave no thought to his own body or life, held no attachment to wealth or treasure, took no delight in crowds of people, indulged in none of the five desires, held no longing for his own family, and placed no importance on royal rank; he wished only to transform and liberate every being, wished only to adorn and purify every buddha-land, wished only to make offerings to every buddha, wished only to realize the true nature of every dharma, wished only to cultivate and accumulate the great ocean of merit of every bodhisattva, wished only to practice every merit without ever regressing, wished only to forever cultivate the bodhisattva practices through the power of great vows throughout every kalpa, wished only to universally enter every buddha's own assembly-hall, wished only to enter a single samādhi-gate and universally manifest the sovereign spiritual power of every samādhi-gate, wished only to behold every buddha within a single one of the buddha's own pores without ever growing weary, and wished only to attain the light of wisdom of every dharma, able to uphold the treasury of every buddha's own dharma — he single-mindedly sought only such merit of every buddha and bodhisattva as this.
Ten Wishes, Stated to the Elder
Arriving at last before Utpala-Flower, Good-Wealth restates his own purpose yet again — not as an inward reflection this time, but as a direct address, naming ten specific things he seeks from the elder himself.
漸次遊行，至廣大國，詣長者所，頂禮其足，遶無量匝，合掌而立，白言：「聖者！我已先發阿耨多羅三藐三菩提心，欲求一切佛平等智慧，欲滿一切佛無量大願，欲淨一切佛最上色身，欲見一切佛清淨法身，欲知一切佛廣大智身，欲淨治一切菩薩諸行，欲照明一切菩薩三昧，欲安住一切菩薩總持，欲除滅一切所有障礙，欲遊行一切十方世界，而未知菩薩云何學菩薩行、云何修菩薩道，而能出生一切智智？」
Journeying onward by stages, he arrived in the land of Vast, went to where the elder was, bowed his head at his feet, circumambulated him countless times, and stood with palms joined, saying: "Noble one, I have already given rise to the mind of anuttara-samyak-sambodhi. I wish to seek every buddha's own equal wisdom, wish to fulfill every buddha's own measureless great vows, wish to purify every buddha's own supreme form-body, wish to behold every buddha's own pure dharma-body, wish to know every buddha's own vast wisdom-body, wish to purify every bodhisattva practice, wish to illuminate every bodhisattva samādhi, wish to abide securely in every bodhisattva dhāraṇī, wish to eliminate every obstruction there is, and wish to journey throughout every world in the ten directions — but I do not yet know how a bodhisattva learns the bodhisattva practices, or cultivates the bodhisattva path, in order to give rise to the wisdom of all-knowing wisdom?"
唯願... — wished only... This Part gives Good-Wealth's own interiority more explicit weight than most — twice over, first as private reflection and then as spoken address, he lists what he has renounced and what he seeks, a rare pause to let his own resolve speak for itself before the next teacher answers.

This continues chapter thirty-nine, 入法界品, in fascicle sixty-seven. Part 1043 opens Utpala-Flower's own answer, as he names his mastery of every kind of incense in the world before beginning to describe them one by one.
