Every Realm, Its Own Dharma
Unsurpassed Victory's own teaching climbs from the desire realm into the Brahmā heavens and then scales outward to worlds beyond counting, giving each realm of existence — hell, the animal realm, King Yama's world, heaven, and the human world — its own matched dharma of condition, feeling, and path.
Five Realms, Each in Three Parts
Every realm of existence Unsurpassed Victory names is given exactly three things — its own nature, its own suffering or pleasure, and its own path leading there — a structure repeated identically from the depths of hell up through the human world.
"And on up through every Brahmā heaven of the form realm, I likewise teach them the supreme dharma. Just as in this great trichiliocosm, so too throughout worlds as numerous as the fine motes of dust in ten unspeakable hundreds of thousands of millions of nayutas of buddha-lands in the ten directions, I teach in every one of them the buddha-dharma, the bodhisattva-dharma, the śrāvaka-dharma, and the pratyekabuddha-dharma; I speak of hell, I speak of the beings in hell, and I speak of the path leading to hell; I speak of the animal realm, I speak of the differences among animals, I speak of the suffering animals undergo, and I speak of the path leading to the animal realm; I speak of King Yama's world, I speak of the suffering in King Yama's world, and I speak of the path leading to King Yama's world; I speak of the heavenly world, I speak of the pleasure in the heavenly world, and I speak of the path leading to the heavenly world; I speak of the human world, I speak of the suffering and pleasure in the human world, and I speak of the path leading to the human world.
Eleven Reasons for Teaching It All
Unsurpassed Victory closes with eleven distinct reasons behind this entire vast undertaking — reasons that move from revealing the bodhisattva's own merit all the way to turning the tathāgata's own wheel of dharma.
Wishing to reveal the bodhisattva's own merit, wishing to cause them to abandon the faults and troubles of birth and death, wishing to cause them to know and see the wondrous merit of every all-knowing person, wishing to cause them to know the confusion and suffering within every destiny of existence, wishing to cause them to know and see the unobstructed dharma, wishing to reveal the causes from which every world arises, wishing to reveal that the quiescence of every world is bliss, wishing to cause beings to abandon every notion and attachment, wishing to cause them to realize the buddha's own dharma of non-reliance, wishing to cause them to forever extinguish the wheel of every affliction, and wishing to cause them to be able to turn the tathāgata's own wheel of dharma — for the sake of beings, I teach the dharma in this way.
說天世間,說天世間樂 — I speak of the heavenly world, I speak of the pleasure in the heavenly world. Even heaven's own pleasure is named as something to be taught about rather than simply enjoyed — Unsurpassed Victory's own dharma treats every realm, pleasant or painful, as equally a subject requiring the same threefold analysis of nature, feeling, and path.
