Twelve Powers, One Practice
A single cascading sentence moves through twelve distinct powers — of wisdom, compassion, vajra-concentration, diligence, non-attachment, skillful means, vow — each accomplishing its own specific work, from subduing Māra's armies to turning the great wheel of the Dharma for immeasurable living beings.
From Subduing Māra to Turning the Wheel
「佛子！菩薩摩訶薩住此法中，勤加修習，以智慧明，滅諸癡闇；以慈悲力，摧伏魔軍；以大智慧及福德力，制諸外道；以金剛定，滅除一切心垢煩惱；以精進力，集諸善根；以淨佛土諸善根力，遠離一切惡道諸難；以無所著力，淨智境界；以方便智慧力，出生一切菩薩諸地、諸波羅蜜，及諸三昧、六通、三明、四無所畏，悉令清淨；以一切善法力，成滿一切諸佛淨土、無邊相好，身、語及心具足莊嚴；以智自在觀察力，知一切如來力、無所畏、不共佛法，悉皆平等；以廣大智慧力，了知一切智智境界；以往昔誓願力，隨所應化，現佛國土，轉大法輪，度脫無量無邊眾生。」
"Son of the Buddha! A bodhisattva-mahāsattva who abides within this Dharma diligently cultivates and practices it further: through the brightness of wisdom, they extinguish every dark delusion; through the power of loving-kindness and compassion, they subdue the armies of Māra; through the power of great wisdom and merit, they master every non-Buddhist teacher; through vajra-like concentration, they extinguish and remove every stain and affliction of the mind; through the power of diligence, they gather every wholesome root; through the power of the wholesome roots that purify a buddha-land, they keep far from every peril within the evil destinies; through the power of non-attachment, they purify the very realm of wisdom; through the power of skillful means and wisdom, they bring forth every bodhisattva ground, every perfection, and every samādhi, the six superknowledges, the three insights, and the four fearlessnesses, causing all of them to be entirely pure; through the power of every wholesome dharma, they bring to complete fulfillment every buddha's own pure land, their boundless excellent marks, and the full adornment of their body, speech, and mind; through the power of sovereign contemplation with wisdom, they know that the power, fearlessnesses, and unshared qualities of every Tathāgata are all entirely equal; through the power of vast and expansive wisdom, they thoroughly understand the very realm of the wisdom of all-knowing wisdom; and through the power of their own vows sworn in ages past, they manifest buddha-lands in accordance with whoever should be transformed, turn the great wheel of the Dharma, and save and liberate immeasurable, boundless living beings."
Twelve distinct powers appear here in a single unbroken sentence, each introduced by 以 ("through") and each accomplishing a different task — a construction that mirrors, in its own grammar, the point the passage is making: this is not twelve separate achievements but one continuous practice viewed from twelve angles. The sequence moves deliberately from the internal (extinguishing delusion, purifying the mind) outward to the cosmic (turning the great wheel of the Dharma for boundless living beings), tracing the same arc the whole chapter has followed since its opening question.
