Gopā names a second liberation-gate — contemplating the ocean of every bodhisattva's samādhi — and Good-Wealth's question about its domain opens an account that starts with every being's karma across countless kalpas and widens to the complete path of every buddha of that same kalpa.
Every Buddha's Entire Path
A second liberation-gate opens a vastly larger account than the first — beginning with the karma of every being in this world, then widening to the complete life of every buddha within the same span of time.
時，釋迦瞿波說此頌已，告善財童子言：「善男子！我已成就觀察一切菩薩三昧海解脫門。」善財言：「大聖！此解脫門境界云何？」答言：「善男子！我入此解脫，知此娑婆世界佛剎微塵數劫，所有眾生於諸趣中，死此生彼，作善作惡，受諸果報，有求出離、不求出離，正定、邪定及以不定，有煩惱善根，無煩惱善根，具足善根，不具足善根，不善根所攝善根，善根所攝不善根；如是所集善、不善法，我皆知見。又彼劫中所有諸佛名號、次第，我悉了知。彼佛世尊從初發心，及以方便求一切智，出生一切諸大願海，供養諸佛，修菩薩行，成等正覺，轉妙法輪，現大神通，化度眾生，我悉了知。
At that time, once Śākya Gopā had spoken this verse, she said to Good-Wealth: "Good son, I have already accomplished the liberation-gate of Contemplating the Ocean of Every Bodhisattva's Samādhi." Good-Wealth said: "Great sage, what is the domain of this liberation-gate?" She answered, saying: "Good son, having entered this liberation, I know that, throughout kalpas as many as the fine motes of dust in a buddha-land, all the beings of this Sahā world, throughout every destiny, have died here and been born there, done good and done evil, and received every kind of retribution; some sought release, and some did not seek release; some were rightly determined for liberation, some wrongly determined, and some undetermined; some had wholesome roots mixed with affliction, and some had wholesome roots free of affliction; some were fully endowed with wholesome roots, and some were not fully endowed; some had wholesome roots contained within unwholesome roots, and some had unwholesome roots contained within wholesome roots — all such wholesome and unwholesome dharmas as these, gathered together, I know and see in full. Moreover, throughout that kalpa, the names and sequence of every buddha, I entirely and fully know. Those world-honored buddhas, from their very first giving rise to the resolve, and through skilful means seeking all-knowing wisdom, bringing forth the whole ocean of every great vow, making offerings to every buddha, cultivating the bodhisattva's practices, accomplishing perfect and complete awakening, turning the wondrous wheel of dharma, manifesting great spiritual powers, and transforming and delivering beings — all of this, I entirely and fully know.
觀察一切菩薩三昧海解脫門 — the liberation-gate of Contemplating the Ocean of Every Bodhisattva's Samādhi. The name Gopā gives this second gate says almost nothing about what follows — not a mention of karma, of buddha-lineages, or of any of the specific knowledge she is about to describe. As with her first liberation-gate, the name announces a scope; only Good-Wealth's question about its 境界, its domain, draws out what that scope actually contains.
