The maiden reveals herself at last — Gopā herself, all along — and then names forty-eight buddhas she served after Victorious Sun Body's own passing, a list standing in for a total the text itself places beyond counting.

The last identity in the story is Gopā's own, and it arrives almost in passing, folded into the opening of a list that will run to forty-eight names before it even claims to be complete.

"Son of the Buddha! The maiden Wondrous Virtue, who together with the wheel-turning king Awesome Virtue Lord made the four kinds of offering to the tathāgata Victorious Sun Body — that was myself. After that buddha's own parinirvāṇa, within that world, six billion hundred-thousand nayutas of buddhas appeared in the world, and I, together with the king, served and made offerings to every one of them. Within that kalpa, buddhas such as these — six billion hundred-thousand nayutas of them — appeared in the world, and I drew near to every one of them, served them, and made offerings to them.

Only forty-eight of that number are ever named. Every other one, the text folds into a single word, 等, "such as these" — forty-eight standing in for a total no list could ever actually hold.
