The World and the Non-World Are Only Names
Power Grove Bodhisattva's hymn traces the world back through a chain — aggregates rest on karma, karma rests on mind, and mind is like an illusion — and then dissolves the very distinction between "world" and "non-world," showing both to be names for the same aggregates, present or ceased.
Power Grove Bodhisattva's Hymn
爾時，力林菩薩承佛威力，普觀十方而說頌言：
At that time, relying upon the Buddha's own awesome power, Power Grove Bodhisattva universally surveyed the ten directions and then spoke a verse, saying:
「一切眾生界，皆在三世中，
三世諸眾生，悉住五蘊中。
諸蘊業為本，諸業心為本，
心法猶如幻，世間亦如是。
世間非自作，亦復非他作，
而其得有成，亦復得有壞。
世間雖有成，世間雖有壞，
了達世間者，此二不應說。
云何為世間？云何非世間？
世間非世間，但是名差別。
三世五蘊法，說名為世間，
彼滅非世間，如是但假名。
云何說諸蘊？諸蘊有何性？
蘊性不可滅，是故說無生。
分別此諸蘊，其性本空寂，
空故不可滅，此是無生義。
眾生既如是，諸佛亦復然，
佛及諸佛法，自性無所有。
能知此諸法，如實不顛倒，
一切知見人，常見在其前。」
"The whole realm of living beings exists entirely within the three periods of time; and every living being across the three periods of time abides entirely within the five aggregates. The aggregates take karma as their very root, and karma takes the mind as its very root; the dharma of mind is just like an illusion, and the world, too, is just the same.
The world is not made by itself, and neither is it made by another, and yet it comes to have its arising, and likewise comes to have its destruction. Though the world has an arising, and though the world has a destruction, whoever thoroughly comprehends the world should not speak of either of these two.
What, then, is the world? What is the non-world? The world and the non-world are simply a difference of names. The dharma of the five aggregates across the three periods of time is what is called the world; their cessation is the non-world — and this too is merely a provisional name.
How, then, are the aggregates spoken of? What nature do the aggregates have? The very nature of the aggregates cannot be extinguished, and for this reason it is said that they are unborn. Discriminating these aggregates, their own nature is originally empty and quiescent; because they are empty, they cannot be extinguished — this is the very meaning of the unborn.
Living beings being just so, every buddha, too, is likewise so; the Buddha himself, and every buddha-dharma, has no own-nature to it at all. Whoever is able to know these dharmas exactly as they truly are, without any distortion, always sees the one of all-knowing sight standing right before them."
The chain traced here — aggregates rest on karma, karma rests on mind, mind is like an illusion — reaches the same conclusion the earlier "mind-only" hymn pointed toward, from a different direction: if the world is nothing but aggregates arising from mind, then "world" and its cessation are not two separate realities but two names applied to the same process, present or stilled. The hymn's closing promise is striking in its plainness: whoever sees this correctly sees the Buddha standing right in front of them, here, not as a future reward.
