Inexhaustible Signs
Unsurpassed Army names a liberation-gate won by beholding measureless buddhas, then sends Good-Wealth further south still — to a settlement named for the Dharma itself, and a brāhmaṇa whose own name means utter stillness.
Inexhaustible Signs
Good-Wealth's journey turns south again, twice over — first to an elder whose liberation-gate came from beholding measureless buddhas, then further still, to a settlement that carries the Dharma's own name.
是時，善財禮妙月足，遶無數匝，戀仰辭去。漸向彼城，至長者所，禮足圍遶，合掌恭敬，於一面立，白言：「聖者！我已先發阿耨多羅三藐三菩提心，而未知菩薩云何學菩薩行？云何修菩薩道？我聞聖者善能誘誨，願為我說！」長者答言：「善男子！我得菩薩解脫，名：無盡相。我以證此菩薩解脫，見無量佛，得無盡藏。「善男子！我唯知此無盡相解脫。如諸菩薩摩訶薩得無限智無礙辯才，而我云何能知能說彼功德行？「善男子！於此城南，有一聚落，名之為：法；彼聚落中，有婆羅門，名：最寂靜。汝詣彼問：菩薩云何學菩薩行、修菩薩道？」時，善財童子禮無勝軍足，遶無數匝，戀仰辭去。漸次南行，詣彼聚落，見最寂靜，禮足圍遶，合掌恭敬，於一面立，白言：「聖者！我已先發阿耨多羅三藐三菩提心，而未知菩薩云何學菩薩行？云何修菩薩道？我聞聖者善能誘誨，願為我說！」
At that time, Good-Wealth bowed at Wondrous Moon's feet, circled him countless times, gazing upon him with longing and devotion, and took his leave. He gradually made his way toward that city, arrived at the elder's own place, bowed at his feet, circled him, stood reverently to one side with his palms joined, and said: "Noble one! I have already given rise to the mind of anuttara-samyak-sambodhi, yet I do not yet know how a bodhisattva studies the bodhisattva's own practice, or how one cultivates the bodhisattva's own path. I have heard that you, noble one, are skillfully able to guide and instruct — I beg you, teach me!" The elder answered, saying: "Good son! I have attained a bodhisattva's own liberation-gate, named Inexhaustible Signs. Through realizing this bodhisattva's own liberation-gate, I have beheld measureless buddhas, and attained an inexhaustible treasury. Good son! I know only this liberation-gate of Inexhaustible Signs. As for the bodhisattva-mahāsattvas, who have attained boundless wisdom and unobstructed eloquence — how could I possibly know or speak of their own virtuous practice? Good son! To the south of this city, there is a settlement, named Dharma; within that settlement, there is a brāhmaṇa, named Most Tranquil. Go to him, and ask: how does a bodhisattva study the bodhisattva's own practice, and cultivate the bodhisattva's own path?" At that time, Good-Wealth bowed at Unsurpassed Army's feet, circled him countless times, gazing upon him with longing and devotion, and took his leave. He gradually journeyed south, arrived at that settlement, and saw Most Tranquil; he bowed at his feet, circled him, stood reverently to one side with his palms joined, and said: "Noble one! 於此城南，有一聚落，名之為：法 — to the south of this city, there is a settlement, named Dharma. Good-Wealth has already passed through a city named for a fertile field and another named for being born forth; this next stop is named for the teaching itself, and its teacher for the stillness at the very center of that teaching.

This continues chapter thirty-nine, 入法界品, in fascicle seventy-six. Part 1255 turns to the brāhmaṇa Most Tranquil's own answer, and the vow of true speech he names as his liberation-gate.
