The One of Most Supreme Wisdom
Vajra Banner Bodhisattva's verse reaches its final stanzas, gathering every living being throughout the ten directions without exception into the bodhisattva's dedication, seeking benefit for no self at all but only that every being attain peace and happiness. The verse's closing lines name a wisdom foremost, vast, free of falsehood, free of inversion, equal, true, and pure — completing both the verse and the entire third dedication.
Gathered Without Exception
The verse's final movement widens its scope one last time — every living being throughout the ten directions, every sentient kind, every child of the Buddha — gathered in with an equal mind that leaves nothing out at all. Its closing image turns from scope to substance, naming a wisdom so thoroughly qualified — foremost, vast, unerring, equal, true, pure — that the accumulation of epithets itself performs what the verse has been describing all along: dedication offered without holding anything back.
Throughout every world in the ten directions, they gather in every living being there entirely; dedicating every wholesome root toward them entirely, wishing to cause them to be fully endowed with peaceful and secure bliss. Not seeking benefit for their own self, but wishing that all attain peace and happiness entirely; never once giving rise to a mind of frivolous discourse even for a moment, but only contemplating that every dharma is empty and without self. Every immeasurable most supreme one throughout the ten directions, and every true child of the Buddha they behold; they dedicate every wholesome root toward them entirely, wishing to cause them to swiftly accomplish unsurpassed awakening. Every sentient kind throughout the world, they gather in with an equal mind, leaving nothing out at all; through every wholesome karmic deed that I myself practice, may those living beings swiftly accomplish buddhahood. Immeasurable, boundless great vows, expounded by the unsurpassed Guiding Teacher himself; may every child of the Buddha become entirely pure, and according to whatever their mind delights in, may it all be entirely fulfilled. Universally beholding every world throughout the ten directions, they give every merit to them entirely; wishing to cause them all to be fully endowed with wondrous adornment — the bodhisattva studies dedication in just this way.
Their mind does not weigh and measure any dual dharma at all, but forever penetrates and understands that dharmas are without duality; whether dharmas are dual or non-dual, within them there is, in the end, nothing at all to cling to. Every world throughout the ten directions is entirely the discriminating perception of living beings; within perception and non-perception alike, nothing at all can be obtained — one penetrates and understands every perception in just this way. Once those very bodhisattvas' own bodies are pure, then their intention is likewise pure, without any blemish or defilement; their verbal karma already pure, without any fault at all, one should know that their intention is pure, clinging to nothing at all. With a single mind and right mindfulness they recollect the buddhas of the past, and likewise remember every Guiding Teacher of the future; and also the Honored One of gods and humans in the present — they study the Dharma each of them has expounded entirely. Every Tathāgata of the three periods of time, their wisdom bright and penetrating, their mind unobstructed; wishing to benefit living beings, they dedicate toward bodhi, gathering every karmic deed. That very foremost wisdom, vast and expansive wisdom, wisdom free of falsehood, wisdom free of inversion; equal and true wisdom, pure wisdom — the one of most supreme wisdom speaks in just this way."
"Never once giving rise to a mind of frivolous discourse even for a moment, but only contemplating that every dharma is empty and without self" names the discipline underlying everything else this verse claims — the bodhisattva's vast dedications toward every being in every world are held together not by ambition but by a mind that has stopped generating idle speculation, leaving only the direct contemplation of emptiness and non-self as its steady ground.
Third Dedication Complete — 第三等一切佛迴向
With this verse's close, the third of the ten dedications — the dedication equal to every buddha — is now complete. Its exposition opened with equanimity before every form and touch, moved through ten kinds of buddha-bliss and dedications extended in turn toward bodhisattvas and every living being down to a single grain of food offered to an animal, named nineteen honorific qualifiers for the dedication itself, and closed with this verse's own inventory of bliss offered without attachment to the offering.
Part 244 Complete
This closes Part 244 and the third dedication. Chapter 25 continues in Part 245 with the fourth of the ten dedications — the dedication that reaches every place (至一切處迴向) — as Vajra Banner Bodhisattva begins to describe a bodhisattva whose every wholesome root reaches everywhere at once.
