Unattached to Karma, Body, Land, or Being
A brief non-attachment reflection — unattached to karma, to body, to any land or direction, to sentient beings or their absence — gives way to a single dedication for buddha-wisdom, and then to an extraordinary account of tireless activity: the bodhisattva manifesting his body across inexpressible, inexpressible worlds, thought after thought, purifying buddha-lands, upholding the Dharma of every Tathāgata, and dividing his own body to visit countless buddha-worlds within the span of a single finger-snap.
Thought After Thought, World After World
The passage's rhythm shifts from the brief non-attachment reflection into something closer to a vision of simultaneity: "thought after thought" (念念), the bodhisattva manifests his body, purifies lands, and matures beings across worlds beyond counting — not sequentially, one after another, but all at once, in every single moment of his practice.
「佛子！菩薩摩訶薩如是迴向時，不著業，不著報，不著身，不著物，不著剎，不著方，不著眾生，不著無眾生，不著一切法，不著無一切法。佛子！菩薩摩訶薩如是迴向時，以此善根普施世間：『願一切眾生成滿佛智，得清淨心，智慧明了，內心寂靜，外緣不動，增長成就三世佛種。』
"Child of the Buddha! When the bodhisattva mahāsattva dedicates in this way, he is attached neither to karma, nor to its ripening, nor to body, nor to things, nor to lands, nor to direction, nor to sentient beings, nor to the absence of sentient beings, nor to any dharma, nor to the absence of any dharma. Child of the Buddha! When the bodhisattva mahāsattva dedicates in this way, with these wholesome roots he universally bestows them upon the world: 'May all sentient beings accomplish and fulfill the wisdom of a buddha, attaining a pure mind, their wisdom clear and bright, their inner mind tranquil, unmoved by outer conditions, growing and accomplishing the seed of buddhahood of the three times.'"
「佛子！菩薩摩訶薩修行如是迴向之時，超出一切，無能過者，一切世間所有言辭悉共稱讚亦不可盡；普修一切菩薩諸行，悉能往詣一切佛土，普見諸佛無所障礙；又能普見一切世界菩薩所行，以善方便，為諸眾生分別諸法甚深句義，得陀羅尼演說妙法，盡未來劫無有斷絕；為眾生故，念念於不可說不可說世界，猶如影像，普現其身，供養諸佛；念念嚴淨不可說不可說諸佛國土，悉令周遍，修行嚴淨佛剎智慧而無厭足；念念令不可說不可說百千億那由他眾生，清淨成就，平等滿足；於彼一切諸國土中，勤修一切諸波羅蜜，攝取眾生，成就淨業；得無礙耳，於不可說不可說諸佛世界，一一如來所轉法輪，聽聞受持，精勤修習，不生一念捨離之心；住無所得、無依止、無作、無著菩薩神通，於一剎那一彈指頃，分身普詣不可說諸佛世界，與諸菩薩等同一見。
"Child of the Buddha! When the bodhisattva mahāsattva cultivates and practices this dedication, he transcends everything, surpassed by none; every word of praise that the whole world could offer together could never exhaust it; he universally cultivates every bodhisattva practice, is entirely able to journey to every buddha-land, and universally beholds every buddha without any obstruction; and he is moreover able to universally behold the practice of bodhisattvas throughout every world, and with skillful means, distinguishes for sentient beings the profound meaning of every phrase of the Dharma, attaining dhāraṇī and expounding the wondrous Dharma without interruption throughout every future kalpa; for the sake of sentient beings, thought after thought, throughout inexpressible, inexpressible worlds, like a reflected image, he universally manifests his body, making offerings to every buddha; thought after thought, he adorns and purifies inexpressible, inexpressible buddha-lands, causing them all to be pervaded entirely, cultivating the wisdom of adorning and purifying buddha-lands without ever growing weary or satisfied; thought after thought, he causes inexpressible, inexpressible hundreds of thousands of koṭis of nayutas of sentient beings to become pure and accomplished, equally fulfilled; within every one of those lands, he diligently cultivates every perfection, gathering in sentient beings and accomplishing pure karma; he attains an unobstructed ear, and throughout inexpressible, inexpressible buddha-worlds, he listens to, receives, and upholds the wheel of the Dharma turned by every single Tathāgata, diligently cultivating it, never once giving rise to a single thought of abandoning it; abiding in the bodhisattva's own spiritual power that is without attainment, without reliance, without doing, and without attachment, within a single instant, the space of a finger-snap, he divides his body and universally journeys to inexpressible buddha-worlds, sharing the same vision together with every bodhisattva."
"Like a reflected image" (猶如影像) qualifies how the bodhisattva manifests across inexpressible worlds — not as a body physically multiplying and traveling from place to place, but appearing the way a single moon appears reflected in countless bodies of water: one presence, everywhere at once, without division or diminishment.
Part 338 Complete
This continues the seventh dedication's account of the bodhisattva's practice. Chapter 25 continues in Part 339 as the sūtra declares that even these countless accomplishments could never be fully praised, and turns toward the still-greater attainment of unsurpassed enlightenment itself, with every buddha-land, every sentient being, and every action equally and entirely pure.
