The Tenth Dedication Named

Twenty-nine kinds of equality, each anchored in the dharma-realm's own immeasurable nature — of form, sensation, sentient beings, buddha-lands, and every dharma at once — culminate in a bodhisattva who abides securely in a pure body, speech, and mind equal to the dharma-realm itself. The sūtra then names what it has just finished describing: a bodhisattva mahāsattva's tenth dedication, abiding in the immeasurable dedication equal to the dharma-realm.

Twenty-Nine Kinds of Equality

Nearly thirty times over, the same formula repeats — dedicating by abiding in the dharma-realm's own immeasurable equality — applied to bodily, verbal, and mental karma, to the five aggregates individually and together, to what is inward and outward, to sentient beings and buddha-lands, and finally to the dharma-realm's own non-duality with itself.

The list closes on "the dharma-realm's own immeasurable equality of the dharma-realm's own non-duality" — the dharma-realm made equal to its own non-duality with itself, a claim that folds the entire preceding list back onto the single term organizing it. Every other equality named here turns out to be one instance of this final, self-referential one.

Named: The Dedication Equal to the Dharma-Realm

Abiding securely in a pure body, speech, and mind equal to the dharma-realm, in a wisdom that broadly expounds every dharma, and in a light able to sever every sentient being's own net of doubt with a single voice — the sūtra pauses to name what it has just finished describing: the tenth and final dedication.

Child of the Buddha! This is called a bodhisattva mahāsattva's tenth dedication, abiding in the immeasurable dedication equal to the dharma-realm.

The naming lands quietly, exactly as it did for the ninth dedication — a single short sentence following an immense catalogue, rather than any special fanfare. What follows this naming, as with the ninth, is not silence but a further passage on what abiding in this dedication accomplishes, before the verse recapitulation begins.

Part 391 Complete

This names the tenth and final dedication of "The Ten Dedications" chapter, though its prose section does not yet close — a further passage on what this dedication accomplishes still remains. Chapter 25 continues in Part 392 as the bodhisattva mahāsattva who dedicates in this way fulfills Samantabhadra's own immeasurable, boundless practice and vow, purifying every buddha-land throughout the whole of empty space and the entire dharma-realm.
