Universal Entries, and Vast Dharmas Hard to Believe
Two more lists of ten: qualities a buddha is entirely endowed with, each one pervading everywhere without exception, and then a list the chapter itself names as difficult to believe — dust that holds whole worlds without growing larger, and worlds that fit inside it without growing smaller.
Ten Universal Entries
Each item in this list names a quality a buddha is entirely endowed with, and each is paired with a claim that this quality reaches universally — the three times, every sentient being, every dharma-realm.
「佛子！諸佛世尊有十種普入法。何等為十？所謂：一切諸佛有淨妙身，普入三世；一切諸佛皆悉具足三種自在，普化眾生；一切諸佛皆悉具足諸陀羅尼，普能受持一切佛法；一切諸佛皆悉具足四種辯才，普轉一切清淨法輪；一切諸佛皆悉具足平等大悲，恒不捨離一切眾生；一切諸佛皆悉具足甚深禪定，恒普觀察一切眾生；一切諸佛皆悉具足利他善根，調伏眾生無有休息；一切諸佛皆悉具足無所礙心，普能安住一切法界；一切諸佛皆悉具足無礙神力，一念普現三世諸佛；一切諸佛皆悉具足無礙智慧，一念普立三世劫數。是為十。
"Sons of the Buddha! The buddhas, the World-Honored Ones, have ten kinds of universal entry. What are these ten? They are: every buddha has a pure and wondrous body, universally entering the three times; every buddha is entirely endowed with three kinds of mastery, universally transforming sentient beings; every buddha is entirely endowed with every dhāraṇī, universally able to uphold every buddha-dharma; every buddha is entirely endowed with the four eloquences, universally turning every pure dharma-wheel; every buddha is entirely endowed with equal great compassion, forever never abandoning any sentient being; every buddha is entirely endowed with profound meditative concentration, forever universally observing every sentient being; every buddha is entirely endowed with wholesome roots that benefit others, taming sentient beings without ever resting; every buddha is entirely endowed with an unobstructed mind, universally able to abide in every dharma-realm; every buddha is entirely endowed with unobstructed spiritual power, universally manifesting the buddhas of the three times within a single thought-moment; and every buddha is entirely endowed with unobstructed wisdom, universally establishing the kalpa-numbers of the three times within a single thought-moment. These are the ten.
Ten Vast Dharmas, Hard to Believe
For the first time, the chapter names a list by how it will land on the listener — not simply vast, but hard to believe and accept — before giving the dust-and-world image its fullest statement yet.
「佛子！諸佛世尊有十種難信受廣大法。何等為十？所謂：一切諸佛悉能摧滅一切諸魔；一切諸佛悉能降伏一切外道；一切諸佛悉能調伏一切眾生咸令歡悅；一切諸佛悉能往詣一切世界化導群品；一切諸佛悉能智證甚深法界；一切諸佛悉皆能以無二之身現種種身充滿世界；一切諸佛悉皆能以清淨音聲起四辯才說法無斷，凡有信受功不唐捐；一切諸佛皆悉能於一毛孔中出現諸佛，與一切世界微塵數等，無有斷絕；一切諸佛皆悉能於一微塵中示現眾剎，與一切世界微塵數等，具足種種上妙莊嚴，恒於其中轉妙法輪教化眾生，而微塵不大、世界不小，常以證智安住法界；一切諸佛皆悉了達清淨法界，以智光明破世癡闇，令於佛法悉得開曉，隨逐如來住十力中。是為十。
"Sons of the Buddha! The buddhas, the World-Honored Ones, have ten kinds of vast dharma difficult to believe and accept. What are these ten? They are: every buddha is able to utterly destroy every demon; every buddha is able to subdue every non-Buddhist path; every buddha is able to tame every sentient being, causing every one of them to rejoice; every buddha is able to journey to every world, guiding and teaching every class of being; every buddha is able to realize the profound dharma-realm through wisdom; every buddha is able, with a body that is without duality, to manifest every manner of body filling every world; every buddha is able, with a pure voice, to raise the four eloquences and teach the dharma without interruption, so that whoever has faith and accepts it never has their effort wasted; every buddha is able to make buddhas appear from within a single pore, equal in number to the motes of dust in every world, without any interruption; every buddha is able to manifest a multitude of lands within a single mote of dust, equal in number to the motes of dust in every world, entirely endowed with every manner of supreme adornment, forever turning the wondrous dharma-wheel within them to teach sentient beings, while the mote of dust grows no larger and the worlds grow no smaller, constantly abiding in the dharma-realm through the wisdom of realization; and every buddha thoroughly comprehends the pure dharma-realm, using the light of wisdom to break through the world's darkness of delusion, causing all to attain clarity regarding the buddha-dharma, following the tathāgata in abiding within the ten powers. These are the ten.
而微塵不大、世界不小 — while the mote of dust grows no larger and the worlds grow no smaller. This is the same containment-without-expansion first stated of a hair-tip in fascicle forty-five (Part 572), now applied to a mote of dust holding entire worlds with their own dharma-wheels turning inside it. The chapter's own label for this list — difficult to believe and accept — reads less like a warning than an acknowledgment: even within a chapter built entirely from claims like this, this one is flagged as harder than the rest.
