Non-Dual Practice, Abiding, and Knowledge Without Remainder
Four shorter lists follow the ten vast buddha-works: ten kinds of practice held without any duality across the three times, ten kinds of constant abiding, ten kinds of knowledge that leaves nothing left over — including, for the first time by name, Indra's net itself — and a plain list of ten kinds of power.
Decided, and Without Duality
Every item in this list ends on the same phrase — decided, without duality — applied in turn to speech, to buddha-lands, to wholesome roots, and finally to the claim that worldly dharmas and buddha-dharmas share a single nature.
"Sons of the Buddha! The buddhas, the World-Honored Ones, have ten kinds of mastery in non-dual practice. What are these ten? They are: every buddha is entirely able to skillfully speak, bestowing predictions in words that are decided and without duality; every buddha is entirely able to accord with the thoughts in sentient beings' minds, causing their intentions to be fulfilled, decided and without duality; every buddha is entirely able to presently awaken to every dharma, expounding its meaning, decided and without duality; every buddha is entirely endowed with the wisdom of every buddha of the past, future, and present, decided and without duality; every buddha entirely knows that every instant of the three times is exactly a single instant, decided and without duality; every buddha entirely knows that every buddha-land of the three times enters into a single buddha-land, decided and without duality; every buddha entirely knows that every buddha-word of the three times is exactly a single buddha-word, decided and without duality; every buddha entirely knows that every buddha of the three times, together with every sentient being they transform, are equal in own-nature, decided and without duality; every buddha entirely knows that the nature of worldly dharmas and of buddha-dharmas is without any distinction, decided and without duality; and every buddha entirely knows that the wholesome roots of every buddha of the three times are a single, identical wholesome root, decided and without duality. These are the ten.
Ten Kinds of Abiding
A shorter list follows, each item naming a single word or short phrase a buddha abides in — compassion, an original vow, an unobstructed mind — without further elaboration.
"Sons of the Buddha! The buddhas, the World-Honored Ones, have ten kinds of abiding, abiding in every dharma. What are these ten? They are: every buddha abides in awakening to the entire dharma-realm; every buddha abides in speech of great compassion; every buddha abides in their original great vow; every buddha abides in never abandoning the taming of sentient beings; every buddha abides in the dharma of no own-nature; every buddha abides in equally benefiting all; every buddha abides in a dharma never forgotten; every buddha abides in an unobstructed mind; every buddha abides in a mind constantly in right concentration; and every buddha abides in equally entering every dharma without contradicting the mark of the true limit. These are the ten.
Nothing Left Over, Including Indra's Net
This list of complete knowledge ends on an image the site's own opening description of this sūtra reaches for — Indra's net of mutually reflecting jewels — named here directly as one thing a buddha knows entirely, without remainder.
"Sons of the Buddha! The buddhas, the World-Honored Ones, have ten kinds of knowing every dharma entirely, without remainder. What are these ten? They are: knowing every dharma of the past entirely, without remainder; knowing every dharma of the future entirely, without remainder; knowing every dharma of the present entirely, without remainder; knowing every dharma of language entirely, without remainder; knowing every path of the world entirely, without remainder; knowing the minds of every sentient being entirely, without remainder; knowing the upper, middle, and lower ranks and every manner of station of every bodhisattva's wholesome roots entirely, without remainder; knowing that every buddha's perfect wisdom and every wholesome root neither increases nor decreases, entirely, without remainder; knowing that every dharma arises entirely from conditions, without remainder; knowing every kind of world entirely, without remainder; and knowing, throughout the entire dharma-realm, every distinct matter that is like Indra's net, entirely, without remainder. These are the ten.
知一切法界中如因陀羅網諸差別事盡無有餘 — knowing, throughout the entire dharma-realm, every distinct matter that is like Indra's net, entirely, without remainder. Indra's net — jewels arranged so that each one reflects every other, without end — has stood behind this entire translation project since its opening description of the sūtra. Here the image finally appears by name inside the text itself, no longer a metaphor supplied by a reader but a phrase the sūtra uses about its own structure.
Ten Kinds of Power
A brief list of epithets closes this part — no elaboration, just ten names for power, ending on a power that nothing in the world can move.
"Sons of the Buddha! The buddhas, the World-Honored Ones, have ten kinds of power. What are these ten? They are: vast power, supreme power, measureless power, power of great majestic virtue, power difficult to attain, power of never turning back, firm power, indestructible power, power inconceivable to the entire world, and power that no sentient being is able to shake. These are the ten.
Part 599 Complete
This continues chapter thirty-three, 佛不思議法品, in fascicle forty-seven. Part 600 opens ten kinds of Nārāyaṇa-like valor and strength.
