Ocean-Like Wisdom Continues
Three more ocean-like wisdoms scale upward from delighting in every root of goodness across the three times, to seeing every one of countless buddhas who could ever appear within a single kalpa of the past, to knowing, for every kalpa of the future, whether it holds a buddha at all and, if so, that buddha's exact name, world, and lifespan.
Every Kalpa's Exact Roster of Buddhas
The sixth wisdom lists ten separate magnitudes for how many buddhas a single kalpa might hold — from a hundred million to unspeakably unspeakably many — before insisting a bodhisattva sees them all clearly regardless; the seventh turns the same total knowledge toward the future, down to the specific name, world, and lifespan of each buddha yet to come.
菩薩摩訶薩於過去、未來、現在諸佛、菩薩、法師、聲聞、獨覺及一切凡夫所集善根已集、現集、當集，三世諸佛於阿耨多羅三藐三菩提已成、今成、當成所有善根，三世諸佛說法調伏一切眾生已說、今說、當說所有善根，於彼一切皆悉了知，深信隨喜，願樂修習，無有厭足，是為第五如海智。菩薩摩訶薩於念念中入過去世不可說劫，於一劫中，或百億佛出世，或千億佛出世，或百千億佛出世，或無數、或無量、或無邊、或無等、或不可數、或不可稱、或不可思、或不可量、或不可說、或不可說不可說，超過算數諸佛世尊出興于世，及彼諸佛道場眾會聲聞、菩薩說法調伏，一切眾生壽命延促，法住久近，如是一切悉皆明見；如一劫，一切諸劫皆亦如是。
"A bodhisattva-mahāsattva, regarding the roots of goodness already accumulated, now being accumulated, and to be accumulated by every buddha, bodhisattva, dharma-teacher, śrāvaka, solitary awakened one, and every ordinary being of the past, future, and present; regarding every root of goodness that belongs to every buddha of the three times who has already attained, is now attaining, or will attain unsurpassed, perfect, complete awakening; and regarding every root of goodness that belongs to every buddha of the three times who has already spoken, is now speaking, or will speak the dharma to teach and tame every sentient being — fully understands all of this, believing it profoundly, rejoicing in it, delighting in cultivating it, and never growing weary — this is the fifth ocean-like wisdom. A bodhisattva-mahāsattva, within thought after thought, enters unspeakably many kalpas of the past age, and within a single kalpa, whether a hundred million buddhas appear in the world, or a thousand million, or a hundred thousand million, or countless, or measureless, or boundless, or unequaled, or uncountable, or inexpressible, or inconceivable, or immeasurable, or unspeakable, or unspeakably unspeakable World-Honored Buddhas appear in the world beyond every reckoning, together with the assemblies of śrāvakas and bodhisattvas at each of those buddhas' own sites of awakening teaching and taming beings, the lengthening or shortening of every sentient being's lifespan, and how long or briefly the dharma abides — sees all of this entirely and clearly; and just as this is true of one kalpa, it is likewise true of every kalpa.
其無佛劫所有眾生，有於阿耨多羅三藐三菩提種諸善根，亦悉了知；若有眾生善根熟已，於未來世當得見佛，亦悉了知。如是觀察過去世不可說不可說劫，心無厭足，是為第六如海智。菩薩摩訶薩入未來世，觀察分別一切諸劫無量無邊，知何劫有佛，何劫無佛，何劫有幾如來出世，一一如來名號何等，住何世界，世界名何，度幾眾生，壽命幾時。如是觀察，盡未來際皆悉了知，不可窮盡而無厭足，是為第七如海智。
As for the sentient beings within kalpas without a buddha who have planted roots of goodness toward unsurpassed, perfect, complete awakening, they also fully understand this; and should any sentient being's roots of goodness have already ripened, so that they will come to see a buddha in a future age, they also fully understand this. Observing the unspeakably, unspeakably many kalpas of the past age in this way, their mind is never wearied — this is the sixth ocean-like wisdom. A bodhisattva-mahāsattva enters the future age, observing and discerning every kalpa, measureless and boundless, knowing which kalpa has a buddha and which kalpa has no buddha, how many tathāgatas appear in the world within each kalpa, what each and every tathāgata's own name is, in which world they dwell, what that world is called, how many sentient beings they deliver, and how long their lifespan lasts. Observing in this way, they fully understand everything to the very limit of the future, inexhaustibly and without ever growing weary — this is the seventh ocean-like wisdom.
其無佛劫所有眾生，有於阿耨多羅三藐三菩提種諸善根，亦悉了知 — as for the sentient beings within kalpas without a buddha who have planted roots of goodness toward unsurpassed, perfect, complete awakening, they also fully understand this. The sixth wisdom does not stop at kalpas that contain buddhas; it extends the same total knowledge to the kalpas with no buddha at all, tracking the roots of goodness quietly planted there and following them forward to the future moment when a being's ripened root finally lets them see a buddha.
