Ten Kinds of Fearlessness Conclude
The eighth fearlessness places a bodhisattva amid noble birth, a full retinue, and every pleasure the heart desires, then declares fearlessness in finding nothing there to crave; the ninth and tenth close the set with never mistaking a lesser vehicle for one's own path, and seeing no single sentient being who could ever fall outside a buddha's own power to bring them to maturity.
Amid Every Pleasure, Nothing to Crave
The eighth fearlessness stages its test inside comfort rather than danger: a bodhisattva born into noble lineage, surrounded by a complete retinue, with everything desired following the heart — and fearlessness here means finding, even there, not the slightest mark worth clinging to. The tenth then closes the whole set on the widest possible claim: no single sentient being anywhere falls outside a buddha's own power to bring them to maturity.
佛子！菩薩摩訶薩，金剛力士、天、龍、夜叉、乾闥婆、阿脩羅、帝釋、梵王、四天王等常隨侍衛，一切如來護念不捨。菩薩摩訶薩作如是念：『我不見有眾魔外道有見眾生能來障我行菩薩道少分之相。』以不見故，心得無畏，究竟到彼大無畏岸，發歡喜心行菩薩行，是為菩薩第六無畏。佛子！菩薩摩訶薩已得成就第一念根，心無忘失佛所悅可，作如是念：『如來所說成菩提道文字句法，我不於中見有少分忘失之相。』以不見故，心得無畏，受持一切如來正法行菩薩行，是為菩薩第七無畏。
"Son of the Buddha! A bodhisattva-mahāsattva is constantly attended and guarded by vajra warriors, devas, nāgas, yakṣas, gandharvas, asuras, Śakra, Brahmā, and the four heavenly kings, and is never once forsaken by the mindful protection of every tathāgata. The bodhisattva-mahāsattva thinks in this way: 'I see not the slightest mark of any māra, any follower of another path, or any sentient being possessed of views who could come and obstruct my carrying out of the bodhisattva path.' Because they see no such thing, their mind attains fearlessness, ultimately reaching the far shore of great fearlessness, giving rise to a joyful mind and carrying out bodhisattva practice. This is a bodhisattva's sixth fearlessness. Son of the Buddha! A bodhisattva-mahāsattva, having already accomplished the foremost faculty of mindfulness, their mind never forgetting what pleases every buddha, thinks in this way: 'Among the letters, phrases, and teachings the tathāgata has spoken for accomplishing the path to awakening, I see not the slightest mark of forgetting any of them.' Because they see no such thing, their mind attains fearlessness, upholding every tathāgata's true dharma and carrying out bodhisattva practice. This is a bodhisattva's seventh fearlessness.
佛子！菩薩摩訶薩智慧方便悉已通達，菩薩諸力皆得究竟，常勤教化一切眾生，恒以願心繫佛菩提，而為悲愍眾生故，成就眾生故，於煩惱濁世示現受生、種族尊貴、眷屬圓滿、所欲從心、歡娛快樂，而作是念：『我雖與此眷屬聚會，不見少相而可貪著，廢我修行禪定、解脫，及諸三昧、總持、辯才、菩薩道法。』何以故？菩薩摩訶薩於一切法已得自在到於彼岸，修菩薩行誓不斷絕，不見世間有一境界而能惑亂菩薩道者。以不見故，心得無畏，究竟到彼大無畏岸，以大願力於一切世界示現受生，是為菩薩第八無畏。佛子！菩薩摩訶薩恒不忘失薩婆若心，乘於大乘行菩薩行，以一切智大心勢力，示現一切聲聞、獨覺寂靜威儀，作是念言：『我不自見當於二乘而取出離少分之相。』以不見故，心得無畏，到彼無上大無畏岸，普能示現一切乘道，究竟滿足平等大乘，是為菩薩第九無畏。佛子！菩薩摩訶薩成就一切諸白淨法，具足善根，圓滿神通，究竟住於諸佛菩提，滿足一切諸菩薩行，於諸佛所受一切智灌頂之記，而常化眾生行菩薩道，作如是念：『我不自見有一眾生應可成熟而不能現諸佛自在而成熟相。』以不見故，心得無畏，究竟到彼大無畏岸，不斷菩薩行，不捨菩薩願，隨所應化一切眾生現佛境界而化度之，是為菩薩第十無畏。佛子！是為菩薩摩訶薩十種無畏。若諸菩薩安住此法，則得諸佛無上大無畏，而亦不捨菩薩無畏。
Son of the Buddha! A bodhisattva-mahāsattva, having fully penetrated wisdom and skillful means, and having brought every bodhisattva power to its ultimate completion, constantly and diligently teaches and transforms every sentient being, forever binding their vowing mind to the buddha's awakening; and, for the sake of having compassion on sentient beings and bringing them to maturity, manifests being born within this turbid age of affliction, in a lineage of noble birth, surrounded by a complete retinue, with everything desired following the heart, amid joy and delight — and yet thinks in this way: 'Though I gather together with this retinue, I see not the slightest mark that could be craved and clung to, or that could abandon my cultivation of meditative concentration, liberation, every samādhi, dhāraṇī, eloquence, or the dharma of the bodhisattva path.' Why is this? Because the bodhisattva-mahāsattva has already attained sovereign freedom in every dharma, reaching its far shore, vowing never to interrupt the cultivation of bodhisattva practice, and sees no domain in the world able to confuse or disturb the bodhisattva path. Because they see no such thing, their mind attains fearlessness, ultimately reaching the far shore of great fearlessness, manifesting being born in every world through the power of a great vow. This is a bodhisattva's eighth fearlessness. Son of the Buddha! A bodhisattva-mahāsattva, forever never forgetting the mind of all-knowing wisdom, riding the great vehicle and carrying out bodhisattva practice, manifests the tranquil bearing of every śrāvaka and solitary awakened one through the power of the great mind of all-knowing wisdom, and thinks these words: 'I myself see not the slightest mark of ever taking up either of the two vehicles as my own means of liberation.' Because they see no such thing, their mind attains fearlessness, reaching the unsurpassed far shore of great fearlessness, universally able to manifest the path of every vehicle, ultimately fulfilling the equal, great vehicle. This is a bodhisattva's ninth fearlessness. Son of the Buddha! A bodhisattva-mahāsattva, having accomplished every pure and wholesome dharma, complete in roots of goodness, perfect in spiritual penetration, ultimately abiding in the awakening of every buddha, fulfilling every bodhisattva practice, and having received the consecrated prediction of all-knowing wisdom at the place of every buddha, constantly transforms sentient beings and carries out the bodhisattva path, thinking in this way: 'I myself see not a single sentient being fit to be brought to maturity for whom I would be unable to manifest the sovereign freedom of every buddha in bringing them to maturity.' Because they see no such thing, their mind attains fearlessness, ultimately reaching the far shore of great fearlessness, never interrupting bodhisattva practice, never abandoning the bodhisattva vow, and manifesting a buddha's own domain to transform and deliver every sentient being fit to be transformed accordingly. This is a bodhisattva's tenth fearlessness. Son of the Buddha! These are the bodhisattva-mahāsattva's ten kinds of fearlessness. If bodhisattvas abide within this dharma, they attain the unsurpassed, great fearlessness of every buddha, and yet never abandon the fearlessness of a bodhisattva.
我雖與此眷屬聚會，不見少相而可貪著 — though I gather together with this retinue, I see not the slightest mark that could be craved and clung to. The eighth fearlessness does not have a bodhisattva withdraw from noble birth, wealth, or pleasure to prove fearlessness; it has them fully present within all of it, with the absence of craving itself serving as the proof.
