Armored with the Mind of Vow
The verse moves from a jewel abiding securely in the dharma, armored with the mind of vow, through the prophecy of awakening and a hidden, inexhaustible treasury, to guarded body, speech, and mind accomplishing ten kinds of affairs, and finally to a mind that gives rise to the mind, pervading everywhere without ever scattering.
The Mind Giving Rise to the Mind
Rather than describing the mind of awakening as a single event, the verse describes it as continuous and self-renewing: the mind giving rise to the mind, pervading everywhere, deepening into a superior mind free of flattery and deceit — a process that keeps generating itself rather than arriving once and remaining fixed.
如寶安住法，被甲誓願心，
發起於大事，究竟無能壞。
得授菩提記，安住廣大心，
祕藏無窮盡，覺悟一切法。
世智皆自在，妙用無障礙，
眾生一切剎，及以種種法。
身願與境界，智慧神通等，
示現於世間，無量百千億。
遊戲及境界，自在無能制，
力無畏不共，一切業莊嚴。
"Like a jewel abiding securely in the dharma, armored with the mind of vow; giving rise to the great undertaking, ultimately indestructible.
Receiving the prophecy of awakening, abiding in a vast and expansive mind; the hidden treasury inexhaustible, awakening to every dharma.
Worldly wisdom entirely sovereign and free, its wondrous function without any obstruction; every sentient being, every land, and every kind of dharma.
Body, vow, and domain, wisdom and spiritual superknowledge alike, are manifested within the world in measureless hundreds of thousands of koṭis.
Playful ease and its domain, sovereignly free, controlled by nothing at all; the powers, fearlessnesses, and unshared qualities adorn every deed.
諸身及身業，語及淨修語，
以得守護故，成辦十種事。
菩薩心發心，及以心周遍，
諸根無散動，獲得最勝根。
深心增勝心，遠離於諂誑；
種種決定解，普入於世間。
捨彼煩惱習，取茲最勝道，
巧修使圓滿，逮成一切智。
離退入正位，決定證寂滅，
出生佛法道，成就功德號。
Every body and every deed of body, speech and every purified cultivation of speech — because these are guarded and protected, ten kinds of affairs are accomplished.
The bodhisattva's mind gives rise to the mind, and that mind pervades everywhere; every faculty is never scattered or disturbed, and the most excellent faculty is attained.
A deep mind increasing into a superior mind, forever free of flattery and deceit; every kind of decisive understanding universally enters into the world.
Relinquishing every habitual affliction, taking up this most excellent path, skillfully cultivating it to completion, he attains all-knowing wisdom.
Leaving behind regression and entering the right stage, decisively realizing still extinction; bringing forth the path of the buddha-dharma, he accomplishes the title of merit.
菩薩心發心，及以心周遍 — the bodhisattva's mind gives rise to the mind, and that mind pervades everywhere. Rather than the mind of awakening being aroused once and then simply carried forward, this line describes the mind as continuously generating itself — mind producing mind — before that generated mind then spreads out to pervade every place.
Part 822 Complete
This continues chapter thirty-eight, 離世間品, in fascicle fifty-nine. Part 823 continues the verse, moving through the classical path stages — the way and its many adornments, all abided in without any attachment at all — toward a body built entirely from the factors of practice.
