A Bodhisattva Arrives from the South
The second arrival comes from the south, and it varies the pattern in one clear way: rather than raising clouds of offerings into the air, Indestructible Diligence King Bodhisattva and his own retinue carry ten kinds of jeweled object directly in hand, filling every ocean of worlds through spiritual power alone.
Offerings Carried Rather Than Raised
Where the bodhisattva from the east raised clouds of offerings into empty space, this second bodhisattva instead carries every offering directly in hand — nets, sashes, and necklaces, all made of jewels — before conjuring his own seat beside the Buddha in exactly the same way as the one who arrived before him.
南方過不可說佛剎微塵數世界海外有世界，名：金剛藏，佛號：普光明無勝藏王。彼佛眾中有菩薩，名：不可壞精進王，與不可說佛剎微塵數菩薩俱，來向佛所，持一切寶香網，持一切寶瓔珞，持一切寶華帶，持一切寶鬘帶，持一切金剛瓔珞，持一切摩尼寶網，持一切寶衣帶，持一切寶瓔珞帶，持一切最勝光明摩尼帶，持一切師子摩尼寶瓔珞，悉以神力充遍一切諸世界海。到佛所已，頂禮佛足，即於南方化作遍照世間摩尼寶莊嚴樓閣及普照十方寶蓮華藏師子之座，以一切寶華網羅覆其身，與其眷屬結跏趺坐。
At that time, in the south, beyond an ocean of worlds as numerous as unspeakably many fine motes of dust in every buddha-land, there was a world named Vajra Treasury, whose buddha was named Universal Light Unsurpassed Treasury King. In that buddha's own assembly there was a bodhisattva named Indestructible Diligence King, who, together with unspeakably many bodhisattvas as numerous as fine motes of dust in every buddha-land, came toward the place where the Buddha was, holding every kind of jeweled fragrance-net, holding every kind of jeweled necklace, holding every kind of jeweled flower-sash, holding every kind of jeweled garland-sash, holding every kind of vajra necklace, holding every kind of maṇi-jewel net, holding every kind of jeweled garment-sash, holding every kind of jeweled necklace-sash, holding every kind of most excellent light-maṇi sash, and holding every kind of lion maṇi-jewel necklace, filling every ocean of worlds entirely through spiritual power alone. Having arrived where the Buddha was, they bowed in reverence at his feet, and then, in the south, conjured a maṇi-jewel adorned pavilion universally illuminating the world, together with a lion-seat of jeweled lotus-treasury universally illuminating the ten directions; covered their own bodies with nets of every kind of jeweled flower; and sat down cross-legged there together with their own retinues.
持一切寶香網 — holding every kind of jeweled fragrance-net. Every arrival in this procession follows the same outer shape — travel, offer, bow, conjure a seat, sit down — but the offering itself changes each time; here it shifts from clouds summoned into the sky to jeweled objects held and carried, a variation the sūtra will keep returning to as each new direction is named.
