A Bodhisattva Arrives from the North

At that time, in the north, beyond an ocean of worlds as numerous as unspeakably many fine motes of dust in every buddha-land, there was a world named Jeweled-Garment Light Banner, whose buddha was named Great Light Illuminating Empty Space and the Dharma-Realm. In that buddha's own assembly there was a bodhisattva named Unobstructed Victorious Treasury King, who, together with bodhisattvas as numerous as fine motes of dust in an ocean of worlds, came toward the place where the Buddha was, raising up through spiritual power alone every kind of cloud of jeweled garments, namely: clouds of garments of yellow jeweled light, clouds of garments perfumed with every kind of incense, clouds of garments of sun-banner maṇi king, clouds of garments of blazing golden maṇi, clouds of garments of every kind of jeweled blazing light, clouds of garments of supremely wondrous maṇi shaped like every star and constellation, clouds of garments of white-jade-light maṇi, clouds of garments of maṇi whose light universally illuminates with the most excellent, blazing brilliance, clouds of garments of maṇi whose light universally illuminates with awesome, blazing power, and clouds of garments of ocean-adorning maṇi — filling the whole of empty space. Having arrived where the Buddha was, they bowed in reverence at his feet, and then, in the north, conjured a pavilion adorned with an ocean of maṇi jewels, together with a lion-seat of lapis-lazuli jeweled lotus-treasury; covered their own bodies with nets of lion awesome-virtue maṇi kings; wore a pure jewel-king as the bright pearl in their own topknot; and sat down cross-legged there together with their own retinues.
