Vows, Dhāraṇīs, and Skillful Means
The unbroken description of these bodhisattvas continues through mastery of every dhāraṇī, arrival at the far shore of the pāramitā of wisdom, and five distinct kinds of wisdom put to five distinct uses, before naming a merit and wisdom that the sūtra itself admits no simile can ever reach.
Beyond Every Simile
After a fascicle built almost entirely from comparisons — mountains, oceans, jewels, the sun and moon — this single line admits a limit to the method itself: a merit and wisdom like a mountain of vajra, which no simile whatsoever is able to reach.
善能積集殊勝行願，智慧圓滿，清淨善巧，心極寂靜；善入一切總持境界，具三昧力，勇猛無怯；獲明智眼，住法界際，到一切法無所得處；修習無涯智慧大海，到智波羅蜜究竟彼岸，為般若波羅蜜之所攝持；以神通波羅蜜普入世間，依三昧波羅蜜得心自在；以不顛倒智知一切義，以巧分別智開示法藏，以現了智訓釋文辭，以大願力說法無盡，以無所畏大師子吼；常樂觀察無依處法，以淨法眼普觀一切，以淨智月照世成壞，以智慧光照真實諦；福德智慧如金剛山，一切譬諭所不能及；善觀諸法，慧根增長；勇猛精進，摧伏眾魔；無量智慧，威光熾盛；其身超出一切世間，得一切法無礙智慧，善能悟解盡、無盡際；住於普際，入真實際，無相觀智常現在前。
They are skillfully able to accumulate superior practices and vows; their wisdom is fully perfected, pure and skillful, their minds utterly still; they skillfully enter the domain of every dhāraṇī, endowed with the power of samādhi, valiant and without timidity; they have attained the bright eye of wisdom, abiding at the very limit of the dharma-realm, arriving at the place where nothing at all is attained in any dharma; they cultivate the boundless, great ocean of wisdom, arriving at the ultimate far shore of the pāramitā of wisdom, sustained by the pāramitā of prajñā; through the pāramitā of spiritual superknowledge they universally enter the world, and through reliance on the pāramitā of samādhi they attain sovereign freedom of mind; through undistorted wisdom they know every meaning, through skillfully discerning wisdom they reveal the treasury of dharma, through clearly manifesting wisdom they explain every word, through the power of their own great vow they teach the dharma without end, and through fearlessness they roar the great lion's roar; they constantly delight in observing the dharma that relies upon nothing, universally observing everything through the pure dharma-eye, illuminating the world's own formation and destruction through the moon of pure wisdom, and illuminating the true truth through the light of wisdom; their merit and wisdom are like a mountain of vajra, which no simile whatsoever is able to reach; they skillfully observe every dharma, their own root of wisdom continually growing; valiant and diligent, they subdue every host of Māra; their measureless wisdom blazes with awesome light; their own bodies transcend every world, having attained unobstructed wisdom in every dharma, skillfully able to comprehend both the finite and the infinite limit; they abide at the universal limit, enter the true, ultimate limit, and the wisdom of markless contemplation is constantly present before them.
福德智慧如金剛山，一切譬諭所不能及 — their merit and wisdom are like a mountain of vajra, which no simile whatsoever is able to reach. This line offers a comparison and then immediately declares comparison inadequate — a small, telling admission inside a sūtra that has otherwise reached for mountains, oceans, moons, and jewels at nearly every turn to describe what ultimately, by its own account, exceeds them all.
