Gateways of Wisdom Continue
The list of teaching gateways closes with a run of wisdom-gateways naming increasingly specific kinds of knowledge — every craft, every sentient being's own difference, and finally every being's own faculty, affliction, and habitual tendency — before a single closing line names their entire purpose.
Beyond Affliction, to Its Residue
One gateway in this closing group names something more precise than affliction itself: knowledge of every sentient being's own habitual tendency, the residue that lingers even once the affliction that produced it has already passed.
……或現不可說佛剎微塵數隨諸眾生時節欲樂往詣其所方便成熟令住一切智海光明門，或現不可說佛剎微塵數降伏眾魔制諸外道顯現菩薩福智力門，或現不可說佛剎微塵數知一切工巧明智門，或現不可說佛剎微塵數知一切眾生差別明智門，或現不可說佛剎微塵數知一切法差別明智門，或現不可說佛剎微塵數知一切眾生心樂差別明智門，或現不可說佛剎微塵數知一切眾生根行、煩惱、習氣明智門，或現不可說佛剎微塵數知一切眾生種種業明智門，或現不可說佛剎微塵數開悟一切眾生門……。以如是等不可說佛剎微塵數方便門，往詣一切眾生住處而成熟之。
……in other cases, unspeakably many gateways showing skillful means that, according to each sentient being's own timing and desire, go to where they are and bring them to maturity, causing them to abide in the light of the ocean of all-knowing wisdom; in other cases, gateways showing the subduing of every host of Māra and the restraining of every non-Buddhist teacher, manifesting the bodhisattva's own power of merit and wisdom; in other cases, gateways showing bright wisdom that knows every craft and skill; in other cases, gateways showing bright wisdom that knows the differences among every sentient being; in other cases, gateways showing bright wisdom that knows the differences among every dharma; in other cases, gateways showing bright wisdom that knows the differences among every sentient being's own delight of mind; in other cases, gateways showing bright wisdom that knows every sentient being's own faculty, conduct, affliction, and habitual tendency; in other cases, gateways showing bright wisdom that knows every kind of karma belonging to every sentient being; and in other cases, gateways showing the awakening of every sentient being. Through skillful gateways such as these, unspeakably many as motes of dust in every buddha-land, they go to wherever every sentient being dwells and bring them to maturity.
知一切眾生根行、煩惱、習氣明智門 — bright wisdom that knows every sentient being's own faculty, conduct, affliction, and habitual tendency. Placing 習氣, habitual tendency, alongside affliction itself is a deliberate precision: even after an affliction has been overcome, its residue can linger in habit — a distinction this closing gateway names on its own, rather than folding it silently into affliction.

This continues chapter thirty-nine, 入法界品, in fascicle sixty-one. Part 885 turns to where these bodhisattvas travel to teach — the palaces of devas, nāgas, and even the realms of hell — and to the varied ways sentient beings are moved to change.
