Rest-and-Release Herself Appears
After every kind of offering rains down of its own accord, the laywoman Rest-and-Release finally appears, seated on a throne of true gold and crowned with pearl netting — seen by beings pouring in from all ten directions, and healing every one of them simply by being seen.
A Hundred Million More Gifts, Then Rest-and-Release Herself
Sandalwood incense sounding of its own accord, mandārava flowers surpassing heaven, palace-maidens casting themselves down from the sky — after this final wave of offerings, the passage turns at last to the laywoman herself, seated on gold, crowned in pearl, her hair hanging deep blue-black beneath a net of maṇi jewels.
常雨百萬莊嚴具，百萬黑栴檀香出妙音聲，百萬出過諸天曼陀羅華而以散之，百萬出過諸天瓔珞以為莊嚴，百萬出過諸天妙寶鬘帶處處垂下，百萬出過諸天眾色妙衣，百萬雜色摩尼寶妙光普照，百萬天子欣樂瞻仰頭面作禮，百萬采女於虛空中投身而下，百萬菩薩恭敬親近常樂聞法。時，休捨優婆夷坐真金座，戴海藏真珠網冠，挂出過諸天真金寶釧，垂紺青髮，大摩尼網莊嚴其首，師子口摩尼寶以為耳璫，如意摩尼寶王以為瓔珞，一切寶網垂覆其身，百千億那由他眾生曲躬恭敬。
It constantly rained a hundred million adornments; a hundred million pieces of black sandalwood incense produced wondrous sounds; a hundred million mandārava flowers surpassing the heavens were scattered about; a hundred million necklaces surpassing the heavens served as adornment; a hundred million wondrous jeweled garland-sashes surpassing the heavens hung down everywhere; a hundred million wondrous garments of every color surpassing the heavens appeared; a hundred million maṇi jewels of every mixed color universally shone their wondrous light; a hundred million sons of gods, joyful and delighted, gazed up and bowed their heads in worship; a hundred million palace-maidens cast themselves down through empty space; and a hundred million bodhisattvas respectfully drew near, constantly delighting in hearing the dharma. At that time, the laywoman Rest-and-Release sat on a throne of true gold, wearing a crown of ocean-treasury pearl netting, adorned with true-gold jeweled bracelets surpassing the heavens, her deep blue-black hair hanging down, a great maṇi net adorning her head, lion-mouth maṇi jewels serving as her earrings, wish-fulfilling maṇi jewel-kings serving as her necklace, every kind of jeweled net hanging down and covering her body, while a hundred thousand koṭis of nayutas of beings bowed respectfully before her.
百萬采女於虛空中投身而下 — a hundred million palace-maidens cast themselves down through empty space. Set among gifts that arrive gently — falling flowers, hanging garlands — this single image stands out: beings throwing their own bodies down from the sky, an offering made of themselves rather than of any object.
Seen From Every Direction, Healed by a Single Glance
From all ten directions alike — Brahmā heavens, humans, non-humans — beings arrive to see her, and the text makes an extraordinary claim about what happens next: sickness vanishes, affliction's thorns are pulled out, and every gate of wisdom, vow, and practice opens, all from nothing more than the sight of her.
東方有無量眾生來詣其所，所謂：梵天、梵眾天、大梵天、梵輔天、自在天，乃至一切人及非人；南、西、北方，四維、上、下，皆亦如是。其有見此優婆夷者，一切病苦悉得除滅，離煩惱垢，拔諸見刺，摧障礙山，入於無礙清淨境界，增明一切所有善根，長養諸根；入一切智慧門，入一切總持門；一切三昧門、一切大願門、一切妙行門、一切功德門，皆得現前；其心廣大，具足神通，身無障礙，至一切處。
From the east, measureless beings came to her place, namely: the Brahmā heaven, the heaven of Brahmā's retinue, the Great Brahmā heaven, the heaven of Brahmā's ministers, and the heaven of sovereignty, down to every kind of human and non-human being; from the south, west, and north, and the four intermediate directions, above and below, it was entirely the same. Whoever saw this laywoman had all their sickness and suffering entirely removed and extinguished, was freed from the defilement of affliction, had the thorns of every view pulled out, had mountains of obstruction crushed, and entered a pure, unobstructed state; all their existing roots of goodness were increased and brightened, and their faculties were nourished; they entered every gate of wisdom, every gate of total retention, every gate of samādhi, every gate of great vows, every gate of wondrous practice, and every gate of merit, all appearing before them; their minds became vast and expansive, they became endowed with spiritual powers, and their bodies, unobstructed, could reach every place.
其有見此優婆夷者，一切病苦悉得除滅 — whoever saw this laywoman had all their sickness and suffering entirely removed. Among the seven teachers Good-Wealth has met so far, none has produced an effect purely through being seen, without any word spoken or teaching given — a healing that happens before Good-Wealth himself has even arrived at her side.
