The Bodhisattva's Own Counting Method
Sovereign Lord recites his own number-ladder, beginning with the same lakṣa and koṭi already named in this sūtra's own chapter on great numbers back in fascicle forty-five, climbing this time through terms borrowed from lotus flowers before arriving, once again, at the Unspeakably Unspeakable.
From Lakṣa to the Unspeakably Unspeakable
The ladder opens exactly as it did in the sūtra's own numbers chapter — a hundred lakṣas making one koṭi, each rung the square of the one before — but this time skips ahead through an abbreviated middle stretch named for lotus flowers, before rejoining the very same terminal names already reached once before.
「善男子！我亦能知菩薩算法。所謂：一百洛叉為一俱胝，俱胝俱胝為一阿庾多，阿庾多阿庾多為一那由他，那由他那由他為一頻婆羅，頻婆羅頻婆羅為一矜羯羅；廣說乃至，優鉢羅優鉢羅為一波頭摩，波頭摩波頭摩為一僧祇，僧祇僧祇為一趣，趣趣為一諭，諭諭為一無數，無數無數為一無數轉，無數轉無數轉為一無量，無量無量為一無量轉，無量轉無量轉為一無邊，無邊無邊為一無邊轉，無邊轉無邊轉為一無等，無等無等為一無等轉，無等轉無等轉為一不可數，不可數不可數為一不可數轉，不可數轉不可數轉為一不可稱，不可稱不可稱為一不可稱轉，不可稱轉不可稱轉為一不可思，不可思不可思為一不可思轉，不可思轉不可思轉為一不可量，不可量不可量為一不可量轉，不可量轉不可量轉為一不可說，不可說不可說為一不可說轉，不可說轉不可說轉為一不可說不可說，此又不可說不可說為一不可說不可說轉。」
"Good son, I am also able to know the bodhisattva's own counting method. Namely: a hundred lakṣas make one koṭi, a koṭi of koṭis makes one ayuta, an ayuta of ayutas makes one nayuta, a nayuta of nayutas makes one bimbara, a bimbara of bimbaras makes one kaṅkara; extensively told, up to — an utpala of utpalas makes one padma, a padma of padmas makes one saṃkhya, a saṃkhya of saṃkhyas makes one gati, a gati of gatis makes one upama, an upama of upamas makes one Uncounted, an Uncounted of Uncounted makes one Turning of the Uncounted, a Turning of the Uncounted of Turnings of the Uncounted makes one Measureless, a Measureless of Measureless makes one Turning of the Measureless, a Turning of the Measureless of Turnings of the Measureless makes one Boundless, a Boundless of Boundless makes one Turning of the Boundless, a Turning of the Boundless of Turnings of the Boundless makes one Unequalled, an Unequalled of Unequalled makes one Turning of the Unequalled, a Turning of the Unequalled of Turnings of the Unequalled makes one Uncountable, an Uncountable of Uncountable makes one Turning of the Uncountable, a Turning of the Uncountable of Turnings of the Uncountable makes one Unreckonable, an Unreckonable of Unreckonable makes one Turning of the Unreckonable, a Turning of the Unreckonable of Turnings of the Unreckonable makes one Inconceivable, an Inconceivable of Inconceivable makes one Turning of the Inconceivable, a Turning of the Inconceivable of Turnings of the Inconceivable makes one Immeasurable, an Immeasurable of Immeasurable makes one Turning of the Immeasurable, a Turning of the Immeasurable of Turnings of the Immeasurable makes one Unspeakable, an Unspeakable of Unspeakable makes one Turning of the Unspeakable, a Turning of the Unspeakable of Turnings of the Unspeakable makes one Unspeakably Unspeakable, and this Unspeakably Unspeakable, squared once more, makes one Turning of the Unspeakably Unspeakable."
廣說乃至 — extensively told, up to. This same phrase marks a deliberate skip, the text itself acknowledging that spelling out every rung between kaṅkara and utpala would repeat what fascicle forty-five's own numbers chapter already gave in full — Sovereign Lord's own method arrives at the identical destination by a shorter road.

This continues chapter thirty-nine, 入法界品, in fascicle sixty-five. Part 994 turns to what Sovereign Lord actually does with this counting method — measuring an entire heap of sand grain by grain, and naming every world, kalpa, buddha, and being across the ten directions.
