A Single Tower Holding a Trichiliocosm
At that time, among all the towers, Sudhana saw one particular tower — taller, more spacious, and more finely adorned than all the others, holding within it the great trichiliocosm entire, its hundred million Jambudvīpas, and its hundred million Tuṣita heavens. Within it, a bodhisattva completes his life and descends in spirit, receives conception and is born, walks seven steps, and surveys the ten directions, roaring the great lion's roar, while Śakra and Brahmā reverently attend and serve him. He manifests as a youth, dwelling within the palace, and goes out to wander the garden; with the mind set on all-wisdom, he leaves home to undergo ascetic hardship, is shown accepting the offering of milk-gruel, proceeds to the bodhimaṇḍa, subdues every māra there, gazes upon the bodhi tree, and turns the wheel of the true Dharma; he ascends to a heavenly palace — and every direction and place, every number of kalpas, every retinue and lifespan, the bodhisattva practice he carries out, the great vows he fulfills, the true Dharma he proclaims, the sentient beings he teaches and transforms, and the relics he distributes at the end — every one of these differs entirely, in each and every case.
The Whole Life of a Buddha, Never Twice the Same
爾時，善財諸樓觀中，見一樓觀，高廣嚴飾，勝妙於前，包容三千大千世界、百億閻浮提、百億兜率天。菩薩命終降神，受胎出生，遊行七步，觀察十方，大師子吼，帝釋、梵王恭敬奉侍，現童子身，處宮殿中，出遊園觀，以薩婆若心，出家苦行，現受乳糜，往詣道場，降伏眾魔，觀菩提樹，轉正法輪，昇天宮殿，方土劫數，眷屬壽量，行菩薩行，滿足大願，演說正法，教化眾生，現分舍利，皆悉不同。◎

This tower's own contents visibly retrace the classical "eight aspects" of a buddha's life (descent, conception, birth, renunciation, subduing māra, awakening, turning the Dharma-wheel, and final nirvāṇa) familiar from the biography of Śākyamuni himself — yet the passage insists this exact sequence recurs differently every single time it occurs, never twice identical in place, duration, retinue, or outcome. Fazang reads this tower as a deliberate microcosm within the larger macrocosm already established: just as the outer tower holds a hundred thousand further towers without obstruction, this one specific tower holds an entire trichiliocosm's worth of buddha-biographies, each singular and complete, nested one level further inward — the same principle of unobstructed containment operating at every scale the vision reaches.
