Hearing His Very Name Ensures Non-Regression
"Good man, you should now observe my own pure Dharma-body, accomplished through an ocean of boundless kalpas carrying out the bodhisattva's own practice; across boundless kalpas, it is hard to hear of and hard to see, and one plants but a small root of goodness toward it even so. Even a śrāvaka-bodhisattva still cannot manage to hear my very name, still less behold my own body. Good man, should any sentient being hear my name, he will never again regress from unsurpassed, perfect awakening; whether he sees me, touches me, welcomes or escorts me, follows behind me, sees my own light, or sees a buddha-world tremble; and even seeing or hearing of me within a dream — it is likewise so. Should he be mindful of me in thought, whether for a single day and night, seven days and nights, half a month, a month, a year, a hundred years, a kalpa, a hundred kalpas, or even unspeakable, unspeakable numbers of world-dust-mote kalpas; should he be mindful of me for a single lifetime, a hundred lifetimes, or even unspeakable, unspeakable numbers of world-dust-mote lifetimes — it is likewise so. Through wondrous, skillful means as numerous as the motes of dust of these very worlds, I cause every sentient being to raise the mind set on unsurpassed, perfect awakening, and to abide without regression. Good man, should any sentient being hear that I cultivate a pure buddha-land, he will surely attain rebirth within a pure world; should any sentient being see or hear of my own body, he will surely be born within my own pure body. Good man, you should observe my pure Dharma-body once more."
Even a Dream of Him Ensures Non-Regression

The escalating list of durations here — a single day and night, up through world-dust-mote-many kalpas and lifetimes — closely mirrors similar formulas used elsewhere in Mahāyāna literature for the benefits of mindfulness of a buddha's own name, and Fazang reads its application here to a bodhisattva rather than a buddha as itself remarkable: Samantabhadra is describing his own name and form as already carrying this same guaranteed, non-regressing efficacy, ordinarily reserved in other texts for buddha-recollection alone. The closing promise — hearing of his pure land ensures rebirth there, seeing his body ensures birth within it — anticipates, without yet naming it, the very kind of pure-land devotion the coming hymn will elaborate at length, where different beings behold different buddhas and their lands according to their own accumulated merit.
Part 429 Complete
Samantabhadra's teaching on the fruits of hearing his own name is now given in full. Part 430 turns to Sudhana looking once more upon Samantabhadra's own body, this time seeing within every single pore an unspeakable ocean of worlds, each filled with its own distinct buddha and retinue.
